About Us
Who is Cascara?
Cascara was born from two values: listening and curiosity. For years, we were voracious consumers of the likes of “TED Radio Hour”, “Freakanomics Radio” and “Startup”. You name it, we heard it. All the while, loving the discussion that followed just as much as the episodes themselves. So much so we thought we’d try it ourselves. Cue Cascara. Formed in 2019, we seek to create content that our readers and listeners don’t just learn from, but get excited about. Cry about. Argue about. We don’t just want information, we want conversation.
What does Cascara mean?
Our name comes from the Spanish word “cáscara,” meaning “shell” or “husk.” This word is typically used to refer to the husk on the outside of a coffee bean (see image to the right) as it grows (before the bean is extracted). This name resonates with us for many reasons. First, we love coffee. We can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning than relaxing with a robust brew (not that kinda brew) and listening to your favorite podcast. But second, it’s a metaphor for our vision: not just to appreciate the byproduct (i.e. the coffee drink) but also how it got to our cup (i.e. via protection by the cáscara).
